Blue plaque award for school redevelopment

A former school which has been redeveloped into 38 new homes has been marked with a Civic Trust blue plaque.

The Grade II listed Shipton Street school has received the plaque from York Civic Trust, and has also been honoured in an award by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.  The development by Rushbond and Advent Developments won the Residential Property Category at the 2015 RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards.  Advent's Tim Reeve said the plaque put Bootham Green in a very select group of buildings in York.

Ken King, who was ward councillor during the progress of the development, said: "The old school building is a hugely popular landmark in this part of York.  It was attended by generations of people and was part of the fabric of the local community for so many years.  It is wonderful to see the original building being given a new lease of life and being recognised by the Trust as a landmark building, which it certainly is.
