Wood Street Collection Mural Completes

July 8, 2025

A key component of the development at Wood Street in Wakefield has now completed, the large scale mural at the end of Bond Terrace.

This mural acts as a key marker in a central point of the redevelopment scheme for the Wood Street Collection and is a celebration of space through the balance of geometry. The intention is to invite people to re-look, re-visit and reconsider their environment. Mondrian-esque in style, the colour and pattern create depth and perspective. It is intended to contribute creatively to a residential environment in an urban context. The overall impression is suggestive (using the forward slash / ) of a blend of classic/ contemporary; city/ country; ornate/ minimal; bold/ subtle therefore all reflective of a balanced lifestyle. Wakefield as a place can offer both reinforcing it as a place to call home.

Inspired by architecture and space this colourful geometric pattern looks to draw on key themes which underpin Wakefield as a wider place. There is a sense of movement to the angularity of the pattern which is a refreshing visual contrast to the traditional architecture at the courthouse for example. The colour is also intended to be impactful without being too overwhelming. In being positioned on the end of Bond Terrace it is directly opposite Gills Mews/ Place and almost acts as a doorway opening up a new Yard zone, echoing the historic yards and ginnels that are integral, community fostering foundations of the wider city framework.

Painted by artist Ralph Replete, a leading figure in the urban art movement whose work is well known for bringing places to life and restoring their originality.
